Heather Lloyd

Thursday, December 22, 2016

After being diagnosed with breast cancer in February 2015, I have been through three operations, six months of chemo and 25 doses of radiation. I am both physically and emotionally exhausted.

In October 2015, I was blessed to be able to go to Adelaide, where by chance I met a group of ladies who had all survived breast cancer and had come from all over Australia to compete in the national dragon boat racing competition.

One of these women, Judy, told me she had been diagnosed with breast cancer over 10 years ago and that her surgeon had lost his wife to breast cancer a few years before that and had founded the OTIS Foundation. I took note of the OTIS Foundation and called them the next week to be told they had just put on their books their first retreat in Queensland, my family could be one of their first guests. How fortunate was I.

This retreat enabled me, along with my husband and children (who have all been affected by this cancer journey), to get away from all the stress and worries that cancer brings and refresh us both physically and emotionally.

We need more Queensland properties to help women like Heather.
