Gala Ball offers time to families experiencing breast cancer

Wednesday, August 2, 2017

Glamorous medical student and former Miss Universe Australia, Olivia Wells, will be one of more than 1,000 people to attend this year’s OTIS Foundation’s Gala Ball – a fundraising evening to support its national network of breast cancer retreats.

The biennial event, themed ‘A Night for Nights’, enables The OTIS Foundation to make close to 4,000 nights available each year, at no cost, to women dealing with the challenges of breast cancer and their families.

Since being introduced to the charity earlier this year, Olivia Wells has become a volunteer Ambassador for The OTIS Foundation, “I love that this charity focuses on the person – it’s emphasis is not just about treating the disease, but about how it can help people through difficult times.

“For many women who have faced a breast cancer diagnosis, the psychological impacts are devastating. The OTIS Foundation offers these women, along with their family, a chance to take time away and reconnect, to create special memories together and concentrate on their own emotional well-being.” Miss Wells said.

OTIS Board member, Richard Burley, said that the charity, which is a legacy to his sister Judy Burley, has grown immensely since it began with just two properties in Bendigo some 15 years ago. “The OTIS Foundation now offers 36 properties in almost every state of Australia, giving an incredible gift of time and space to so many families.

“Unfortunately, the reality is that for some women, their stay at an OTIS property is the last opportunity for them to spend time with their families and loved ones.” Mr Burley said.

“A Night for Nights is an opportunity to enjoy an incredible evening while also raising important funds to enable The OTIS Foundation to continue expanding its unique service and supporting those affected by breast cancer.” Mr Burley added.

‘A Night for Nights’ will be hosted by media personality and author, Angela Pippos, at the Palladium at Crown on Sunday, 19 November. Winner of The Voice Australia, Harrison Craig, will entertain guests along with Chloe Maggs accompanied by DJ Claire Elliott. Tickets are $295 and available at www.otisball.com.au
