Gippsland the home of newest breast cancer retreat

Thursday, February 18, 2016

A charity that provides accommodation at no cost to women living with breast cancer has recently opened its newest retreat on a rural property in Moyarra.

The OTIS Foundation has secured the property on undulating farming land, which will be aptly known as Rolling Hills retreat thanks to the generosity of a  Moyarra local.

Property owner Jennifer said that she loves living in the area and is fortunate enough to have a property she is able to share, “I received a phone call from a friend who mentioned The OTIS Foundation and it was like a lightning bolt, it ticked all the boxes of what we envisaged the place could be used for.” commented Jennifer.

The OTIS Foundation’s General Manager, Rachel Mason said the retreat is the 31st property available through the charity and, like all of its properties, will offer guests the gift of time and space in an environment that allows them to relax, reconnect and heal with family, friends and supporters, “Our guests tell us that a stay at an OTIS retreat is often the pivotal turning point when the series of negatives they have faced start to change.” Mrs Mason said.

“This year we expect to offer almost 4000 night’s accommodation across five states to people living with breast cancer and their families and we continue to see demand for our properties increase.  It is only through the generosity of families such as the Lowe family, that we are able to provide this gift.” added Mrs Mason.

Currently, The OTIS Foundation has properties in Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, Queensland and the Northern Territory.

“Our aim now is to find generous individuals, organisations or service clubs that would be interested in helping to support the running costs associated with cleaning and linen provision at this retreat, which we estimate at $5,000 annually.” Mrs Mason commented.
