Kez’s Hideaway benefits from inaugural race night

Sunday, August 30, 2015

The OTIS Foundation’s newest retreat for women living with breast cancer, Kez’s Hideaway, was the benefactor from an inaugural race night held at the Bendigo Harness Racing Club last night.

More than 300 punters attended the Kez’s Hideaway Memorial Race Night helping to raise much needed funds to complete the construction of the retreat as well as furnish the homestead, which is expected to be finished by spring.

As part of the ten race card meet, the Kez’s Hideaway Lady Driver’s Race featured ten female drivers wearing pink Kez’s Hideaway silks. Rebecca Bartley took out the race honours on Terrorman and was presented a hamper for her efforts by Paul Gray, who is building Kez’s Hideaway in memory of his late wife Kerri Gray.

Acting General Manager of the OTIS Foundation, Rachel Mason, said she was pleased with the evening and expected it would raise in excess of $5,000 towards Kez’s Hideaway “We are still tallying up the donations from the evening and money received through the raffles and auctions, but we certainly expect it will be well above $5000, which is a great result for what was a really enjoyable evening” Mrs Mason said.

“The team at Bendigo Harness Racing Club came up with the idea of an evening to support Kez’s Hideaway and we are very thankful for their support. While Paul is working tirelessly with his trades and suppliers to ensure that construction costs are kept well below market value, we still need to fund around $350,000  to complete the build, plus money required to furnish the retreat and then run it as an on-going concern.” Mrs Mason added.

Bendigo Harness Racing Club Sales and Marketing Manager, Brendan Baker, said he was proud to be associated with the event, “Here at Bendigo Harness Racing Club we think it is very important to support local causes and organisations. We really enjoyed seeing the Lady Driver’s Race, where all the drivers wore Kez’s Hideaway pink pants featuring the OTIS Foundation and Paul Gray Builders logos.” Mr Baker said.
